However, I have noticed a promising improvement over the years, and I hold a lot of hope for new series coming out in the future. In the beginning, the quality of early Taiwanese BL dramas was somewhat inconsistent. The cultural significance of Taiwanese BL dramas means so much to me, and I’m delighted that this genre is on the rise in the country. Any Taiwanese BL series already feels happier by default, simply because I know the couples can enjoy a stable long-term future together with a legitimate status. As the only country in East Asia that has legalized same-sex marriage, Taiwan is the friendliest and most progressive place for gay romances to thrive.
